UMB Steel has started restoration work on Romania's historic Oțelu Roșu steel plant. The company bought the 220-year-old facility for 28 million euros in 2024. The current work focuses on securing the buildings and railway, not on restarting production. The plant has been closed since 2012 and will require significant investment before it can make steel again.
