Tenaris Tightens Tubular Tenure through Transylvanian Takeover

The European Commission has approved Tenaris' purchase of Artrom Steel Tubes in Romania. Regulators found the deal raises no competition concerns because strong rivals remain in the market. Tenaris agreed in May to pay €86 million to GLGH Steel, a unit of Chicago-based Great Lakes Global Holdings. Artrom runs a steelworks at Reșița that can make 450,000 metric tons a year & a pipe mill at Slatina that can roll 200,000 metric tons. Tenaris already owns TenarisSilcotub in Romania. The company says the deal strengthens its industrial pipe business in Europe.
