Andritz: Pickling Proficiency: Port Talbot's Pioneering Plant

Tata Steel UK signed a multi-million agreement alongside Andritz AG for an Acid Recovery Plant at Port Talbot, Wales. The facility forms part of Tata Steel's £1.25 billion low-CO₂ steelmaking transformation. The closed-loop system will regenerate hydrochloric acid used in pickling operations, reducing tanker deliveries from 25 weekly to 2-3 monthly. This represents a 95% logistics reduction alongside substantial CO₂ emissions decreases. Construction commences January 2027 alongside commissioning later that year. The plant will eliminate overseas acid imports & spent liquid exports whilst supporting capacity expansion.
