Witten's Wagered Wager & Rhineland's Reluctant Retrenchment

Swiss Steel Group will restructure its German subsidiary Deutsche Edelstahlwerke over about two years. Steelmaking will concentrate at Witten, which gains investment in its electric furnace & casting operations. Siegen keeps its rolling mill, but steelmaking there will be suspended. The Hagen & Krefeld plants are up for sale, & will close if no buyer emerges. Hagen's sales more than halved between 2018 & 2025, with over 70% of customers in automotive. Witten will target aviation & defence markets instead.
