Siemens Mobility has launched the Train2Train project, a consortium uniting Deutsche Bahn, Hydro, TSR, & voestalpine to recycle materials from end-of-life trains. TSR will dismantle rail vehicles & recover steel & aluminium. The steel goes to voestalpine for recycling, while Hydro processes aluminium at its Ghlin, Belgium facility into new rail components. The project aims to demonstrate that decommissioned trains can be reborn as new ones, strengthening material sovereignty & circularity in the railway sector
