Nascent Nickel: Nam Kim's Novel EV Endeavor
Nam Kim Steel, a leading Vietnamese coated-steel manufacturer, announced plans to research tin-coated steel for packaging & tin-nickel coated steel for electric vehicle battery shells. The company's board approved a resolution tasking its CEO to assess feasibility & identify joint-venture partners possessing technical capabilities. Nam Kim operates factories exceeding 1.2 million metric tons annual capacity, exporting to 65 countries. Despite achieving 286% profit growth in 2024 to VND453 billion ($17.18 million), third quarter 2025 showed 27% revenue decline to VND3,770 billion ($142.99 million) amid weaker demand, prompting this strategic diversification toward higher-value automotive & packaging applications.
