China's Jingye Steel is demanding over one billion dollars in compensation from the UK government after Britain seized control of British Steel in April 2025. Jingye, which bought British Steel in 2020, says it invested heavily in modernising the Scunthorpe plant & supporting its green transition. The UK government has not yet responded to the compensation demand. China's Ministry of Commerce has warned London against full nationalisation, calling the move a potential abuse of administrative power.
