Fortescue’s Ferrous Feat & Fiscal Fortitude’s Fissures

Fortescue shipped a record 201.3 million metric tons of iron ore in FY2026, a 1% annual increase. Total production rose 3% to 246 million metric tons, driven by Iron Bridge’s 33 million metric ton contribution. The company recorded a $525 million after-tax impairment on Iron Bridge due to revised capacity expectations. C1 costs reached $18.74 per metric ton, exceeding guidance. FY2027 forecasts shipments of 197–207 million metric tons with costs rising to $20.50–$21.75. Capital expenditure totals $3.7–$4.7 billion, including $0.9–$1.3 billion for decarbonisation.
