Cliffs' Coveted Contract: Defence's Decisive & Dominant Deal
The United States Department of War awarded Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Corp. a contract worth up to four hundred million dollars for grain oriented electrical steel on 1 July 2026. The five-year deal covers up to fifty-three thousand metric tons of the specialised material for all five military services. Cleveland-Cliffs holds the contract on a sole-source basis as America's only domestic producer of the product. The government stockpiles the material as a strategic reserve against potential supply disruptions from overseas sources.
