Pilbara Pay Palavers & Port Hedland's Predicament
BHP and the union at Port Hedland have been negotiating for more than nine months. Workers seek a new four-year wage agreement. BHP offered a 17% pay increase and a A$25,000 transition payment. The union says 40% of workers would be worse off. Workers staged a two-day stoppage in August. The union now plans to apply for arbitration through Australia’s Fair Work Commission.
