Safeguard's Squeeze & Italy's Steel Sector's Sombre Straits

Italy's steel market is under pressure from new European Union trade rules that took effect on the first of July twenty twenty-six. The new safeguard measures cut available import quotas by forty-seven percent & doubled out-of-quota duties to fifty percent. Assofermet Acciai warns that usable quotas for flat steel could effectively fall by sixty to seventy percent. Italian producers have already raised prices. Demand remains weak across most segments, & a meaningful recovery is not expected before the fourth quarter of twenty twenty-six.
