Arvedi’s Audacious Ascendancy & ArcelorMittal’s Abrupt Abdication
ArcelorMittal abandoned its acquisition of Italian steel distributor AMCLN after the Italian government imposed restrictive conditions under golden power rules. The intervention followed months of tension between Rome and ArcelorMittal over the former Ilva steelworks. Acciaieria Arvedi then submitted a binding bid for full ownership, aiming to integrate downstream distribution and increase throughput. The transaction could intensify competition among independent steel service centres in Italy.
