Duisburg’s Demise & ArcelorMittal’s Austere Ascendancy

ArcelorMittal plans to stop making steel in Duisburg, Germany, by October 2027. The company will close the steelmaking plant and rolling mill, cutting around five hundred fifty jobs. A long-term pig iron supply deal with thyssenkrupp is ending, and converting to electric arc furnaces was not economically viable. The wire rod mill will continue operating with billets from other sources.
