Ahmsa's Auction Agony Amplifies as Assurance Absconds

The sale of bankrupt Mexican steelmaker AHMSA has failed for a second time. Leading bidder CIESA offered $1.4 billion in September but did not provide the required $56.3 million guarantee by 13 October. The trustee confirmed the money never arrived. The court has now given creditors Cargill & Afirme 90 days, until 14 January 2027, to form a group to buy the company & its mining arm MINOSA together. The plant in Monclova has been idle since late 2022, leaving thousands of workers unpaid.
