China’s Zhongshou Special Steel launched the world’s most powerful Arvedi ESP plant in Hebei Province. The endless casting line produced its first coil on 13 May 2026, just five days after first cast. The facility eliminates coal-fired blast furnaces, using electric arc furnace technology powered by renewables. It rolls ultra-thin 0.7-millimetre hot-rolled coils directly, cutting energy use by 60%. This positions Zhongshou to bypass European carbon border tariffs.
