WV Stahl: German Green Steel Grab Grates Guild
Germany’s steel association WV Stahl criticises a new public procurement bill for lacking any mandatory criteria for green steel. A key decree is postponed until June 2027. Without a “Made in EU” requirement, public funds might support foreign decarbonisation instead of German industry. Steelmakers are already investing €30 billion in hydrogen‑based plants. The association demands binding sustainability rules by December 2026 and warns that every month of delay increases emissions across public infrastructure projects.
