UNESID's Euphoric Embrace: Europe's Steel Safeguard Signals Seismic Shift

Spain's steel industry body UNESID has welcomed the European Union's new steel trade protection mechanism as a turning point for the sector. European steel output fell from one hundred and sixty-eight million metric tons in 2018 to around one hundred and thirty million metric tons in 2023, largely due to import surges. The new mechanism introduces tighter import controls and stronger links to the EU carbon border tax, creating conditions for green steel investment and long-term industrial recovery.
