Sovereign Steel's Saga: Britain's Bold & Beijing's Bristling Backlash
The UK government introduces a bill to nationalize British Steel, owned by China's Jingye Group since 2020. The move follows the government's emergency takeover of operations in April 2025 after commercial talks failed. China's commerce ministry warns it will take strong measures to protect Chinese investors' rights. The bill, if passed, would secure around three thousand two hundred jobs and preserve the UK's last major primary steelmaking facility.
