Trump's Truculent Tariff Threat: Europe's Automotive Anguish

The United States threatens to raise tariffs on European Union cars and trucks from fifteen percent to twenty-five percent, citing European failure to honor the July 2025 Turnberry trade deal. President Trump invokes Section 232 of the Trade Act of 1974, the same law used for steel and aluminum tariffs. European Parliament trade chief Bernd Lange calls the move unacceptable and says the EU is still honoring the Scotland agreement. The two sides recently signed a critical minerals cooperation deal, highlighting the contradictions in the current transatlantic relationship.
