Tata Steel: Scrap’s Strategic Surge: Steel’s Sustainable Saga Starts
Tata Steel opened India’s first scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace in Ludhiana. The ₹3,200 crore facility has 0.75 million metric tons annual capacity. It emits below 0.3 metric tons of CO₂ per metric ton of steel, an 85% reduction from conventional methods. The plant uses 100% scrap feedstock & nearly 50% renewable energy. It produces Tata Tiscon rebar for India’s construction sector.
