Clean Currents Counter Crisis & Coal's Claimed Comeback

Solar and wind energy absorbed the gas shortfall caused by the Strait of Hormuz blockade in March 2026, preventing a global coal surge. Global coal imports fell to a five-year low of one hundred and two point eight million metric tons, down seven point six percent year-on-year. Clean energy capacity added since 2022 now generates more electricity annually than all the gas that previously flowed through the strait. The data directly contradicts predictions of a coal comeback following the United States-Israel war on Iran.
