SMS Group is modernising the process automation at Steel Dynamics' hot strip mill in Butler, Indiana, replacing legacy systems with the advanced X-Pact® Level 2 platform. The upgrade covers pass schedule calculation, profile and flatness control, and a precision cooling model to ensure consistent product quality. First coil production under the new system is targeted for late 2026. The project extends a partnership between the two companies dating back to the mill's original SMS Group supply in nineteen ninety-three.
