Severstal finalised a sweeping modernisation of three reheating furnaces at its Cherepovets Steel Works. The upgrades increase rolling capacity to 7 million metric tons annually while reducing natural gas consumption & heat loss. A RUB 1.4 billion furnace No. 1 upgrade extends length by 4 metres, boosting productivity 7%. A new waste-heat power plant captures 2.7 billion cubic metres of blast furnace gas, cutting CO₂ emissions by 420,000 metric tons.
