Liberty Galati's Labyrinthine Legal Limbo & Looming Liquidation

Romania's only flat steel producer, Liberty Galati, faces new legal trouble after a Czech court linked to Liberty Ostrava's insolvency temporarily blocked some of its assets. The development threatens the planned June 2026 auction, which follows a failed earlier sale attempt. The plant has been largely idle since September 2025, leaving around three thousand workers on temporary unemployment. Romania's government has declared the facility a strategic asset and provided state-backed wage support to stabilize operations ahead of the auction
