Galati's Grim Gambit: Liberty's €444m Last-Ditch Lure

Liberty Galati, Romania's only integrated steelworks, is heading for a second auction after its first sale attempt in March 2026 failed to attract any bids. Administrators Euro Insol & CITR have set a new asking price of €444 million ($522 million), down 37% from the original figure. The buyer will receive the plant free of historical debt & must commit to green investment. The plant produces up to 2.5 million metric tons of steel annually & costs €14 million per month to maintain while idle.
