Fortescue has commissioned two battery electric locomotives in its Pilbara operations, eliminating one million litres of diesel annually. These Progress Rail machines feature 14.5MWh batteries, the world's largest for land-mobile applications. Operating on renewable power through the Pilbara Energy Connect program, they demonstrate heavy-haul rail can function reliably without fossil fuels. The locomotives support Fortescue's Real Zero Target, aiming to eliminate operational emissions by 2030.
