FerroSilva's Forestry Feat: Fossil-Free Steel's Finest Frontier

Swedish startup FerroSilva has developed a process to produce fossil-free direct reduced iron using gasified forest residues, achieving negative carbon dioxide emissions. The process consumes only three hundred kilowatt-hours of electricity per metric ton of iron, far less than hydrogen-based alternatives. FerroSilva's inaugural plant at Ovako's Hofors facility in Sweden targets fifty thousand metric tons of fossil-free sponge iron annually, scheduled for startup in twenty twenty-six. The project is backed by a consortium including Sveaskog, Sandvik, Uddeholm, & two leading Swedish universities.
