Egypt's Ezz Steel is evaluating a seven hundred and eighty million dollar investment to build a direct reduction iron plant in Algeria, using the country's vast natural gas reserves as feedstock. The plant would supply Ezz Steel's Egyptian electric arc furnace operations with a secure, cost-competitive source of high-quality iron. The project marks a major step in intra-African industrial cooperation and positions North Africa as a growing centre for lower-emission steelmaking.
