Parliamentary Protections & Preemptive Prophylaxis for European Steel

The European Parliament's trade committee has voted for stringent new steel import controls. The plan cuts tariff-free quotas by 47% and imposes a 50% duty on excess imports. It also bans all steel from Russia and Belarus and strengthens anti-circumvention rules. The measures aim to protect EU producers from global overcapacity. Final negotiations with member states will conclude in spring 2026.
