Tariff's Tenacious Tightening & Türkiye's Truncated Trade Trajectory

The European Union cuts its duty-free steel import quota to 18.3 million metric tons, nearly half of previous levels, and raises out-of-quota tariffs to fifty percent. Turkey faces a proposed allocation of just 2.1 million metric tons, far below its peak exports of over seven million metric tons to Europe in 2022. Industry leader Uğur Dalbeler warns the impact will be severely negative, as Turkey simultaneously battles Chinese competitive pressure and rising raw material costs from supply disruptions in Iran.
