Europe's Epochal Edict: Quotas Quell Overcapacity's Querulous Quagmire

The European Parliament passed new steel trade rules by six hundred and six votes to sixteen, taking effect on July first, twenty twenty-six. Duty-free import quotas fall by forty-seven percent to eighteen point three million metric tons per year, and tariffs on excess imports double from twenty-five to fifty percent. The regulation also tightens origin rules to stop circumvention and gives Ukraine special quota treatment. The measures aim to protect an industry that has lost around one hundred thousand jobs since two thousand and eight.
