DIW Berlin's research reveals that steel decarbonization requires more than new technology. Green hydrogen must become cheaper, carbon prices must rise, & millions of workers need support through the transition. The institute estimates that shifting Germany's steel sector alone could cut thirty million metric tons of CO₂ annually. But success depends on coordinated policy, not market forces alone.
