Covestro's Clever & Consequential CO₂ Conversion Crafts Cushy Commodities
Covestro, the German specialty chemicals company, has developed a commercial process that uses captured CO₂ as a raw material for producing polyurethane foam. The technology incorporates CO₂ as up to twenty percent of the polyol feedstock, reducing fossil fuel use and lowering the material's carbon footprint. The resulting foam matches conventional polyurethane in performance and is used in construction insulation, automotive interiors, furniture, and footwear. Covestro has already scaled the process to industrial production, making it one of the most advanced carbon utilization technologies in commercial operation.
