The Bureau of International Recycling reports that global recycled steel consumption rose in 2025, even as total crude steel output fell. The increase reflects the continued expansion of electric arc furnace steelmaking, which uses scrap as its primary raw material & produces far lower CO₂ emissions than traditional blast furnace production.
