A new study in PLOS Climate finds that ninety-eight percent of environmental claims by thirty-three major meat and dairy companies show signs of greenwashing. More than two-thirds of these claims had no supporting evidence. Legal cases in 2024 against JBS and Tyson Foods confirmed the pattern, with JBS settling for one point one million US dollars and Tyson agreeing to stop making unverified climate claims. Researchers say the industry is following the same delay tactics historically used by the fossil fuel sector.
