ArcelorMittal's Amended Ambition & Decarbonization's Daunting Detour

ArcelorMittal has revised its 2030 carbon intensity target to a ten percent reduction against 2018 levels, down from more ambitious earlier goals, citing high energy costs & insufficient green steel demand. The company approved a €1.3 billion electric arc furnace at Dunkirk, France, targeting two million metric tons per year. It maintains its 2050 carbon neutrality goal & plans 2.8 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2028. Analysts warn other European steelmakers face similar target revisions.
