Anglo's Audacious Abdication & Australia's Coal Conundrum

Anglo American has agreed to sell its Australian steelmaking coal mines to UK-based Dhilmar Limited for up to $3.875 billion, ending its involvement in the coal sector. The deal includes a $2.3 billion upfront payment & an earnout of up to $1.575 billion tied to future coal prices. Combined with the earlier Jellinbah sale, total proceeds reach up to $4.9 billion. The transaction is expected to close by the first quarter of 2027.
