Algix grows algae in closed bioreactors to make bioplastics for car parts, electronics, and packaging. The process recycles 90% of water and uses no arable land. A 2024 automaker adopted the material for seat foam in mass-production models. Production costs of $2,100 per tonne are steadily falling toward fossil plastic parity.
