Acciaierie Bertoli Safau has acquired R. Casini, a scrap collection and processing company in Italy's Friuli Venezia Giulia region, consolidating its raw material supply chain. The move gives the steelmaker captive access to ferrous scrap, which accounts for up to eighty percent of electric arc furnace production costs. Scrap-based steelmaking produces up to eighty percent less carbon dioxide than traditional blast furnace methods, making the deal both a commercial and environmental strategic win.
